Applications open for the Alexia Foundation Student Grants for photography for graduate and undergraduate students and win a chance to have a completely paid semester at Syracuse University London and cash prizes too.
The Alexia Foundation gives student grants for promoting world peace and cultural understanding. Student applicants are encouraged to consider projects that explore cultural understanding in or near their local community. The Foundation welcomes proposals for still photography or multimedia projects.
Undergraduate student awards
- First Place Award – Full tuition of $1900 for study at the Syracuse University (SU) London Program for the fall semester & other cash prizes.
- Second Place Award- Half tuition of $900 for study at the SU London Program, also for the fall semester and other cash prizes.
- Award(s) of Excellence- $1,500 to be used for tuition at the SU London Program and other cash prizes.
Graduate student awards
- First Place- Tuition for two (2) classes during fall semester and program fees, up to a maximum of $15,000 and other cash prizes.
- Second Place -Full tuition for two (2) classes at the SU London Program and other cash prizes.
- Award(s) of Excellence- $1,500 to be used for tuition at the SU London Program and other cash prizes.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be duly enrolled full-time students in an accredited college or university in the U.S. or abroad in a degree program in the spring of 2015 as either graduate or undergraduate students.
- No student who has completed more than three (3) internships or one (1) year of full-time professional experience is eligible.
Student Application Procedure
The application must include the items listed below:
- Written Elements
- Synopsis (25) words
- Proposal (750 words)
- The applicants are requested no to put their name or other identifying information on their proposal.
- Only one application per person each year will be accepted.
- Resume
- References (3)
- Photography Elements
- A portfolio of at least ten (10) and not more than twenty (20) photographs. Said Portfolio must include at least one (1) picture story. Applicants may submit up to three (3) picture stories, as long as the total number of photographs does not exceed twenty (20). Portfolios may include single images. Do not enter single images from your picture stories.
- A cohesive body of work – not more than twenty (20) photographs – on a single subject. This can be a picture story, an essay or a project that reflects your ability to produce a body of work at the scope and quality that judges will expect of the grant recipient.
