Arcadia is a charitable fund, supporting charities and scholarly institutions that preserve cultural heritage and the environment. The foundation also give grants that promote open access to information. Arcadia Funds Since 2002, Arcadia has awarded more than $331 million to projects around the world.
Thematic Areas
- Preserving Endangered Culture: Foundation’s cultural grants to museums, archives and universities preserve at risk cultural heritage. It supports digital documentation of near-extinct languages, endangered historical archives and artefacts, and endangered cultural practices and enable free, online, open access to all these materials.
- Preserving Endangered Nature: Foundation’s environmental grants preserve endangered habitats and make research on these places available to all. It support protection of tracts of land and sea, train conservation practitioners and support advocacy, policy development and research.

Eligibility Criteria
- All grants must be administered by a recognised non-commercial institution in the field of education, research or archival/library management.
- Any accredited member of teaching or research faculty, and any registered post-graduate researcher, at a recognised UK or overseas university or similar higher education institution.
- PhD candidates will only be considered for an award in exceptional circumstances and where the applicant has a proven track record of grant and project management. In such a case, a letter of support must be provided from their supervisor, giving approval for the candidate to undertake the project and detailing how the project relates to the PhD.
- Archivists and librarians with responsibilities for special collections in a recognised UK or overseas archives, national or research library, or similar institution. NB Current employees of the British Library are not eligible to apply.
