Can networking with donor agencies help an NGO raise funds? In short, the answer is ‘yes’. Anytime that you can share information about your organization with those who are able to further its mission through funding is an opportunity to tell others how you are changing the lives of others for the better. Such conversations can not only lead to initial funding from a donor agency, but can also potentially lead to a long term financial support.
A single conversation will most likely not lead to significant funds coming your way. However, that first conversation can lead to many, many others so that over a period of time (months, even years) you build a relationship, creating a strong bond so that a donor agency fully and completely understands and continues to support the work that you are doing. As you build a relationship with that first donor agency, you can continue with additional donor agencies so that eventually you have an ongoing network of support.
And, there is no longer the need to contact potential funding agencies one-by-one. Across the globe there are now funding networks – organizations that host events where NGOs can mingle with potential funders – assisting each with learning about what the other does. In other words, you have the opportunity to share the good works of your organization with potential funders and potential funders get the chance to learn about your organization’s mission, vision, and funding needs. If such an event is hosted near you, it is worthwhile to attend as it may open doors to funding possibilities.
