The 2014 Africa Agribusiness Competition is an opportunity for youth aged 18-30 to win over US$30,000 cash awards; travel to Nairobi, Kenya for Semi-finalists (25 contestants) Gala Dinner; and to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for the finalists Award Ceremony (6 contestants). The competition offers a platform to the African youth to create network with mentors and investors who can highly support them liberate Africa from food insecurity. Participating in the competition, the youth can envision themselves as leader in agricultural sustainability and as a successful business/organization leader.
Competition Timeline
- 10 June 2014 – Deadline for Agri-Business Idea essays and Agriculture Video Message Clips Submission
- 10-17 June 2014 – Screening of entries for the selection of best 200 Essays
- 25 June 2014 – Selection of best 20 video clips
- 1-25 July 2014 – 25 Agribusiness Idea Finalists receive USD 1,000 Grants to test their ideas on the field
- 30 July 2014 – Final submission of the field-tested Agribusiness ideas
- 11-20 August 2014 – Final Round Judging for Agribusiness Idea and Agriculture Video Messaging Competition
- 29 August 2014 – Pre- Finals Gala in Nairobi Kenya to announce finalists
- September 2014 – Boot-Camp training for Finalists, Pitching of Ideas and Award Ceremony for Winners in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Eligibility Criteria
- Contestant must be an African youth aged 18 to 30 years.
- The idea must be original (no plagiarism) and sustainable.
- For Business Idea Competition: One contestant can submit only one business idea centered on one crop value chain.
- For the Agribusiness Messaging Competition: One contestant can submit one three-minute video clip entry.
- Group Submissions is accepted for the teams of up to three members. However, only one person is allowed to do the submissions while the other two are recognized as team members.
- Submissions must be in English language.
