The Netherlands organisation for international cooperation in higher education (EP-NUFFIC) offers fellowships to participate in training Short Course on Citizen Participation and Inclusive Governance to be conducted from 23 May to 3 June, 2016 in The Netherlands. The aim is to promote capacity building within organisations in eligible countries via training and education for professionals. This is initiated and fully funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs from the budget for development cooperation.
About the Course
This course discusses basic principles of good governance, accountability and civil participation. Participants will be engaged in the policy and decision making process and discuss the participation ladder, the accountability chain and do’s and don’ts in participation processes.
In the training course participants will discuss how governments can inform and involve their citizens, including minorities and marginalised groups. Applicants will also learn how civil society can be strengthened in such a way that citizens can hold their governments accountable and bring their concerns on the table.
After successful completion of the course participants will receive a certificate of The Hague Academy for Local Governance.
Course Objectives
This course will help to:
- identify instruments for increasing social and financial accountability;
- define your own role and responsibilities in participation processes as well as the role of your partners;
- specify conditions and do’s and don’ts for successful participation projects;
- apply tools for communication with citizens, NGOs and other stakeholders.
Who is Eligible to Attend this Course?
Professionals working for municipal, provincial or national government, a donor organisation or NGO and who are involved in participation and accountability processes in relation to development and governance are eligible to participate.
