The Batory Foundation’s Citizens for Democracy is a grant programme that aims to strengthen civil society development and enhance the contribution of non-governmental organizations to social justice, democracy and sustainable development.
Grant Categories
- Thematic Projects: PLN 50,000-PLN 350,000
- Systematic Projects: PLN 300,000 – 2 million
- Bilateral Cooperation: Seed money grants and micro grants accordingly
Thematic Areas
- Within thematic projects grants activities are aimed at:
- engaging citizens and civic organizations in public life – Civic participation
- civic monitoring of functioning of public institutions – Public scrutiny
- fighting xenophobia, homophobia, racism, anti-Semitism and all forms of discrimination – Combating discrimination
- extending the scope and forms of support for vulnerable groups at risk of social exclusion – Counteracting exclusion
- promoting civic attitudes and counteracting vulnerabilities, exclusion and marginalization of children and youth – Children and youth
- Within systematic funding the grants are designed to to develop and implement systemic solutions that will strengthen and enhance the quality of the overall non-governmental sector or its individual ‘subsectors’.
- In order to foster bilateral cooperation between Poland and Donor States the Programme offers seed money grants for search of partners and development of partnership projects as well as micro grants for networking, exchange, sharing and transfer of knowledge, technology, experience and best practice between Polish organizations and entities from Norway, Liechtenstein and Island
Eligibility Criteria
Polish non-governmental organisations may apply for grants either individually or as leaders of partnerships with other entities or informal groups from: Poland, the Donor States (Iceland, Lichtenstein and Norway), 14 EEA/Norway grants Beneficiary States (Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia Spain), countries outside the EEA which border on Poland (Belarus, Ukraine, Russia) or with intergovernmental organisations.
