University of San Diego, Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice Call women engaged in peace building and human rights to apply for Women Peace Makers Program. Total four Peace Makers will be selected for the residency program which require the selected Women Peace Makers to give presentations at the IPJ and in the San Diego community, and to participate in documenting their stories through writing and videotaping their reflections.
Women Peace Makers will participate in group discussions and take part in an annual Women Peace Makers event, held at the Institute. Each Woman Peace Maker will have an assigned Peace Writer to document her story. This process involves daily interviews (usually 1.5-3 hours in length) and bi-weekly writing reviews of the narratives as they are completed, on a schedule set forth by the institute.
The Women Peace Maker will –
- Work together with a Peace Writer to document stories of your life and work.
- Have her experiences and personal stories captured on video and audiotape.
- Share their experiences of peacemaking and human rights advocacy with students and faculty at USD, and at other schools and universities in southern California, Washington D.C. in New York.
- Participate in a conference or high level meeting held during the 2014Women Peace Makers residency.
- Meet with and learn from local and national women leaders involved in human rights, political action and peacemaking efforts.
- Form networks that can be called upon for international peacemaking and post-conflict planning processes.
- Take time to reflect in a safe and nurturing environment that promotes new learning and an authentic exchange of ideas.
- Visit local governmental and nongovernmental organizations, and participate in guest lectures and other public engagements.
Eligibility Criteria –
- Applicants must be women engaged in peace building and human rights to apply for Women Peace Makers Program.
- The application must be postmarked on or before 1 May 2014 to be considered for selection.
Complete application includes – completed and signed 2014 application form, two-part statement, resume/curriculum vitae/listing of peacemaking and work activities and educational background, and two letters of reference.
