The Impact Window under DFID’s recently launched Global Poverty Action Fund (GPAF) is a funding opportunity for NGOs in the UK and also in countries where DFID has its presence plus in the bottom 50 countries of the Human Development Index.
The funding is aimed at poverty reduction linked to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), especially those off-track MDGs (like for example MDG 5 “Improving maternal health” which is considered to be the most off track of all MDGs).
Grants ranging between £250,000 up to £4 million can be proposed for a period of up to 36 months and applicant organizations can submit up to three concept notes at any time and if selected, they can also hold grants of up to three times at any time. However, the annual value of all GPAF grants that you hold must be less than 40% of your organizational annual income.
The deadline to submit applications is 14 December 2010. Submissions to be made by email and complete official information is available at this link.
DFID is seeking concept notes only (unlike Innovation Window which is requesting full proposals) from applicants to apply for this funding opportunity. Full proposals will be requested only from selected organizations based upon the evaluation of their concept notes. Along with the concept notes, applicant organizations should also submit a completed logical framework available at this link and of course, a budget based on the template.
There is a specific format for the concept note which needs to be completed. Although it is brief and easy to understand, we have come up with a short guide to assist organizations in developing countries to fill out the format. The Logical Framework template is supported with an official guide that gives complete information about how to fill it and it is available at this link.
We discuss here the guidelines to help applicants fill the concept note format. However, an important disclaimer to be made by us here is that this short guide on how to write the concept note for DFID’s GPAF is neither complete nor accurate. It is an unofficial document to enhance understanding on submitting the concept note without any guarantee. Readers are advised to use it at their own discretion.
