UNESCO office for Iraq is inviting national and international institutions to submit technical and financial proposals in order to provide secondary education services to girls and students through its two projects:
- Bridging urgently the gaps in secondary schooling for girls of IDP communities in Kurdistan Region of Iraq
- Expanding Secondary Education for Syrian Refugees in Kurdistan Region of Iraq
Objectives
For Student girls of IDPs
- To provide access to secondary education through provision of catch up classes and regular secondary classes;
- To introduce education through alternative approaches including educational TV, peace education for social cohesion and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) to girls;
- To facilitate registration of students in safe learning spaces, to pay incentives for IDP teachers and students, printing of textbooks, coverage of examination fee and schools operational cost;
- To train teachers on pedagogy, class room management, psychosocial support and active learning skills using the standards of the International Network of Education in Emergencies (INEE);
- To train officials and PTA members from the two ministries of education (Baghdad and Erbil) on monitoring and supporting schools.
For Syrian Refugee’s Students
- To provide access to secondary education through provision of catch up and regular secondary classes;
- To facilitate registration of students in safe learning spaces, to pay incentives for Syrian teachers and students, printing of textbooks, coverage of examination fee, transportation support and schools operational cost.
- To strengthen capacity of the MoE KRG in dealing with the impact of the Syrian crisis;
- To conduct training of 75 Syrian teachers on INEE minimum standards, classroom management, pedagogy, psychosocial support and active learning methods and 48 PTA members on school management and supporting and monitoring schools.
Benefits
- 2,500 girls in camps will benefit attend catch up classes for secondary education;
- 4,500 girls in host communities will attend regular classes for secondary education
- 2,500 girls in the host communities will participate in peace education and TVET initiatives
- 5,000 girls in camps and host community will participate in alternative education through Iraqi educational TV;
- All 120 teachers will be trained on pedagogy, classroom management; psychosocial support and active learning skills
- 60 teachers among them will be trained on developing content and delivery of online classes on educational TV
- 20 teachers among them will be trained on providing TVET
- 20 teachers among them will be trained on providing peace education
- 40 PTA members from camp schools
- 40 PTA members host communities
- Monitoring and evaluation activities
- Supporting schools (learning spaces) for catch up classes, regular secondary education, peace education and TVET initiatives.
