Japan Fund For Global Environment: Opportunity for International NGOs/NPOs to Secure 6 million JPY working towards Environmental Conservation

Application will open soon for 2015-16 round

The Japanese Environmental Restoration and Conservation Agency accepts proposals every year from NGOs/NPOs based outside Japan for the Japan Fund for Global Environment. NGOs outside Japan can apply but need an agent in Japan. JFGE grant for overseas is exclusively for the environmental conservation activities implemented in developing countries and areas to support for the activities of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and non-profit organizations (NPOs) aiming at environmental conservation.

Grant amount ranges from 500 thousand JPY to 3 million for new entrant and JPY 2- 6 million JPY for regular grant seeker. Grant period is generally from 1 to 3 years.

Project Areas

  1. Conservation of Biodiversity that include
    1. Nature protection, conservation and restoration
    2. Forest conservation and reforestation
    3. Prevention of desertification
    4. Agriculture of environmental conservation type
  2. Mitigation and adaptation to climate change
  3. Building of a recycle-based society
  4. Air, water and soil conservation
  5. Comprehensive environmental education
  6. Comprehensive environmental conservation activities
  7. Other environmental conservation activities

Eligibility Criteria

  • For Organisations
    • The organization must be a non-governmental organization(NGO) or a non-profit organization(NPO) based in any developing countries.
    • The organization must possess an Articles of Incorporation or its equivalent by laws
    • The organization must possess a well-established board of directors and work forces that make decisions for the organization and implements the activities of the proposed project.
    • The organization must possess an accounting structure capable of bookkeeping and self-auditing.
    • The organization must possess an office that serves as a base of their activities.
    • The organization must prove that they have enough capacity to execute the proposed project by presenting the firm evidence, such as activity report of previous activities and achievements.
  • Non-Japanese organizations must have a contract with an agent (individual or organization) for JFGE Grants.
  • For entry Grant: Organisations must be
    • Having at least 1 year experience in the related activity to the proposed project
    • Established less than 10 years ago
    • First time to be granted by JFGE
  • For regular grant seekers: Organisation must be having at least 3 year experience in the related activity to the proposed project.
