The Nagao Natural Environment Foundation (NEF) is accepting research project proposals from academic and scientific researchers in the Asia-Pacific region. The research grant program is aimed at supporting field research projects and studies within the scope of nature conservation in developing countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
One project will be awarded maximum 500,000 Japanese Yen for a period of 1-2 years. The grantee is responsible for individuals and organizations/institutions to which s/he subcontracts for various parts of research.
Supported Research Fields
- Ecology, taxonomy, distribution, and current status of wildlife;
- Biodiversity (e.g., species diversity, genetic diversity, ecological diversity, etc.)
- Wild flora and fauna
- Gathering of information on threatened species and for recovery of ecosystem
- Relationships between nature and humans (e.g., mutual interference, sustainable use of natural resources, etc.)
- Economic valuation of natural environment

- Monitoring Research of the Javan Leopard in Gunung Halimun National Park, Indonesia
- Mechanisms of Qualitative and Quantitative Development of Zooplankton and Zoobenthos in Two Major Lakes of Armenia
- A Study to Conserve the Endemic Aquatic Plant Cryptocoryne purpurea in Tasek Bera, Peninsula Malaysia
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be the research scientists who work full-time at locally based research institutions in the developing countries in Asia-Pacific Region.
- Applicants must be the national of developing country in the Asia-Pacific region.
- Applicants must not be working and/or studying abroad.
- Applicants must have sufficient experience and skills in conducting and managing the proposed research.
- Applicants must be proficient in English language (especially written English).
- Proposed research project must be scientific research contributing to the nature conservation of the applicant’s country.
- Proposed research must be carried out in applicants’ country.
- Applications can be made for individual’s own research work (not team) not funded by any other sources.
- Applicants can’t submit more than one proposal/application nor could apply if they have an on-going research or publication project funded by NEF at the time of application submission.
