The Japan Fund for Global Environment (JFGE) system provides comprehensive support through grants and other aid to projects by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) involved in global environmental conservation, both in Japan and overseas, through a fund created by pooling the strength of both the government and the public. Taking its responsibility as a partner in international collaboration for the alleviation of global environment crisis and for the creation of a sustainable society, JFGE works to minimize the environmental problems that are occurring on a global scale – global warming, depletion of the ozone layer, and destruction of tropical rain forests.
Activities supported by JFGE –
- Environmental conservation activities in developing regions by Japanese NGOs, in developing regions by non-Japanese NGOs, and in Japan by Japanese NGOs are supported for non-governmental organizations grants program.
- Activities of the non-profit organization grounded in the ideas of the public and contribute to global environmental conservation activities are supported.
- NGO support program offers support to NGOs involved in activities to conserve the environment and to citizens supporting those activities, through providing information, research and studies, and training for personnel.
The organization with main office in Japan and activities carried out for the purpose of promoting environmental conservation in Japan can conduct – tree and grass planting projects, material collection projects for recycling resources and other projects that are significantly meaningful to or will be executed with the participation of a broad range of the Japanese population; raising awareness and dissemination of knowledge related to environmental conservation targeted at a broad range of the Japanese population; and research activities aimed at the promotion of local afforestation projects, projects to support the protection and propagation of wildlife, projects to prevent pollution arising from daily activities or other similar projects.
