Rising Voices Micro-Grants aims to help bring new voices from new communities and speaking new languages to the global conversation by providing resources and funding to local groups reaching out to underrepresented communities.
Why Rising Voices Micro-Grants?
- Rising Voices seeks to empower under-represented communities to make their voices heard online by Providing financial support to outreach projects
- Developing a series of participatory media tutorials
- Cultivating a network of passionate citizen media activists to help encourage and support the replication of outreach trainings.
Competition Award Prize
Every six months Rising Voices organizes a micro-grant competition, which awards five grants of US$1,000 to $5,000 for new media outreach projects.
Project needs
We are looking for projects that:
- Actively engage members of a local community that is “underrepresented” online, either demographically, linguistically, or geographically.
- Provide training, mentoring and leadership
- Tell digital stories about issues important to the community.
- Use free and widely available citizen media tools and social media platforms.
Eligibility Criteria
The Micro-Grants are open to private individuals, groups, networks, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Partnerships between individuals and organizations are also encouraged.
Application process
- Applicants submit their initial proposal via the online platform in English. Once the proposal has been published online, we invite applicants to share their proposal with their networks, to solicit comments and receive input from others.
- The new call of Proposals for 2015 will open in the month of March.
