The following notes cover information on how you can explain about the project you are proposing in your Proposal for seeking grants from the Global Fund for Women:
1. Our grants range in size from US $5,000 to $30,000 per year. First time awards generally range from US $5,000 to $13,000. Please tell us the total amount of money you are requesting from the Global Fund.
Here you have to mention the amount of money you are requesting.
Please indicate which currency you are using.
From the drop down box, please select the currency you use in your country.
2. Please describe how you would use a grant from the Global Fund. We make grants that allow groups to use funds for the purposes you believe are most important to your organization. These can include administrative expenses such as rent, salaries, office and communication costs, as well as ongoing program and project expenses.
In this part you have to provide information about the project or activity you are seeking support from the Global Fund. If you are seeking funding for a specific project then you have to give information regarding the project. There is no specific format for this information. Try to give brief but complete information about your project. This should include title, goal, objectives, expected results, project location, target group, problem analysis, activities, and a broad time frame for the project.
Project Title: Project title is one of most important part of a project proposal. It gives readers the first impression about the project. It should be brief, free of jargon and gives a clear idea about what you want to do/achieve through your project.
Problem Analysis: Please see section 2(a)
Goal: Project goal should focus on the core problem of the project. Always remember that you are to contribute towards a long term development agenda. One single project cannot achieve that goal; it depends on many other external factors. It may even achieve long after the project is completed. Suppose your overall objective is “To contribute to eradicate illiteracy from a certain district of Bangladesh”. In a single project you just cannot give education to everybody, rather what you can to create an enabling environment for education. You can motivate relevant people to send their children to school and establish educational institutions. Once community groups are aware project benefit will continue beyond the project cycle and in the long run may be illiteracy may be removed from that area.
Specific Objective: It is the primary results that a proposed intervention intends to be achieved by the project in its lifecycle. It summarizes the effects that the project will have. Specific objective often describe a positive change in terms of knowledge, behavior or practice among target group. Achievement of the specific objective is directly linked to the achievement of the goal of the project. Specific objectives are medium-term effects of a project and usually project has lesser control on specific objectives than expected results. If the project is focused on sexual and reproductive health and rights of women then specific objective can be “At least 60% of women have easy access to modern sexual and reproductive health services within project period”. If the project is designed to facilitate women’s participation at politics then specific objective can be “At least 70% of target population has knowledge and understanding about their political rights”. Be sure to make objectives SMART (Specific, measurable, achievable, reliable and time bound). Always use measurable indicators to evaluate the project.”
Expected Results: Expected results are tangible products of the intervention such as goods, services, knowledge, skills, attitudes etc. that are achieved or created by the project interventions as a result of the activities undertaken. If necessary inputs such as money, human resource, time and others are available then project team is accountable to the achievement of expected results. Suppose our project is focused on girl’s education then parents sensitized on girls education will be an expected result of the project. Example of expected result is “At least 70 of parents in the project area are aware about importance of girl’s education within project period”. If the project is on sexual and reproductive health and rights of women than expected result can be “At least 60% of target women and girls have comprehensive knowledge on the issue”.
Activities: List all of the project activities here like base line study, training, seminar, workshop, awareness raising activities, printing BCC materials, provision of basic social, economic, legal, and other services etc.
Organizational Capacity: It is good to describe why your organization wants to undertake the project i.e. what capacity, experience and/or resources do you have that will enable you properly implement the project. This may be the skilled human resources, past working experience and acceptance within the beneficiaries and stakeholder, linkage with national or regional movement and network etc.
Risk: It is very important to identify and plan for any possible risk that may hamper proper implementation of the project activities. Risk may be political risk, natural calamities etc. You should have a plan for overcoming the risk. Suppose the risk is lack of community acceptance of “Sexual and Reproductive Health Education for Adolescent Girls” project. In this case to avoid the risk you should design community sensitization and mobilization activities.
Innovation: In order to get the funding your project should be built on innovation. Please see “Innovation Grant” part for further reading.
Sustainability: You should demonstrate how your project activities will continue after Global Fund financial support ends. You can say that you will raise money from other donors or your project itself is sustainable in nature such as empowering women by livelihood skill. Using these skills women can generate their own employment. You can also mobilize community support for project sustainability.
If you are seeking support for core/general operating cost of your organization, then please describe the general activities you undertake regularly. You may want to follow the above format. There are numbers of format for proposal. So it does not matter what style or format you are following as long as you give complete but brief description of your project.
