The Open Society Foundations work with governments and businesses to advance transparency, rule of law, and good governance around the world as accountable government is the cornerstone of an open society. The Foundations’ Human Rights Initiative supports advocates in developing regions around the world to promote justice, equality, and participation of all.
The goals of HR Initiative
- Justice systems are fair and equitable, provide redress, and ensure access to justice for all.
- Discrimination embedded in law, policy, and practice is uprooted.
- People are able to organize and participate in the policy debates that impact their rights.
The foundation provides funding to civil society groups to engage at the international, regional and national levels through a combination of advocacy, monitoring, documentation, legal advocacy, litigation, and campaigning to ensure that people can exercise their rights in the communities where they live.
