The grand prize winner of Project Inspire 2013 is Protsahan, the organization established in 2010 to support the adult girls who were prone to sexual abuse. The presented project aims to empower & train at risk adolescent girls from streets and slums in India as creative micro entrepreneurs (artists, photographers & filmmakers). The girls who had no access to education, and had no knowledge of their own rights learn the life skills at Protsahan, gradually becoming aware of the gender rights, reproductive rights and learning the creative art and designs through various stories.
The girls at Protsahan not only make the arts, crafts and designs but also self expression. They start standing for their own rights, understand gender equality, and get the lifetime skill which they can utilize all their lives to make a living and inspire others.
The grant winning project Protsahan, based in New Delhi – India, was a team work of Sonal Kapoor, Shruthi Komandur, and Tripti Bhauduriya. Protsahan was started by Sonal Kapoor, who deemed necessity of an organization that can support the adolescent girls who might otherwise become the victim of sexual abuse. Inspiring force was a young woman named Santosh, pregnant with the seventh child at the age of 35. Santosh was ready to send her 8-year old daughter Jolly to brothel to feed the family. Jolly was rescued and Protsahan started its journey. The young girls today learn various creative arts – film making, designing and art, cinema, cinematography, handicrafts.
The handicraft products (cushions, ornaments, gift cards and other gift items and others) have market value in Singapore. People buy the goods for their art and quality. People serious about supporting, educating and empowering the underprivileged girls in India are helping the organization.
