World Health Organization (WHO) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Coordinator in Geneva, Switzerland. The duration for the post is of 2 years.
The Coordinator is responsible for the Department communications, assisted by the communications officer.
The mission of WHO is to direct and coordinate international health within the United Nations’ system.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Coordinator will perform the following functions-
- Lead the development and implementation of an Organization-wide programme of work on HIV and hepatitis, including strategic plans and annual work plans through coordination with the Regional and Country Offices and other HQ Departments.
- Facilitate the Organizational Programme Area Network (PAN) on HIV and hepatitis and Organization-wide strategic planning frameworks such as General Programme of Work and Programme Budget.
- Lead and manage the Programme Development and Implementation Unit (PDI) and ensure the achievement of timely and high quality outputs as defined in its work plan and advised by the Director, including the development of Department work plans, budget, human resource plans, technical support plans to focus countries, technical and financial progress monitoring and reporting, and through organizing meetings of the Senior Management Team of the Department, Regional Advisers, and broader group of HQ Department HIV and hepatitis focal points.
- Lead the Organization-wide reporting on HIV/AIDS and hepatitis and contribute to other reports in these areas.
- Responsible for the overall programme management, assisted by the project manager.
- Ensure Programme-wide, forward looking financial and human resource planning, monitoring and implementation.
- Build and represent the HIV and hepatitis programmes in strong and strategic partnerships at senior level with regional, national and international health partners, including UN agencies, representatives of Member States, and NGOs.
- Liaise with the UN partners, donors (including UNAIDS, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, PEPFAR (CDC, USAID), GFATM) and other partners and ensure that strategic collaboration frameworks are developed or updated, that regular review meetings are held.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Medical degree or Masters in public health or a related field, and additional training (or equivalent experience) in public administration or management.
- Advanced university degree in business or public administration
- Strong analytical capacity and demonstrated ability to develop strategic plans.
- Ability to coordinate Organization wide plans and projects.
- Ability to form and sustain strategic global partnerships and mobilize resources.
- Capacity to negotiate across partners and WHO Regions.
- Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, and managerial abilities.
- Knowledge of administrative and management practices and their application.
- Excellent analytical and planning skills.
- Strong communication skills combined with the ability to write in a clear and concise manner.
- At least10 years’ experience, in a national and international context, in the development and implementation of communicable disease control programmes, including in, and for, resource limited settings. Of those 10 years at least five years of experience at the senior level in HIV programmes.
- At least three years’ experience in the development of strategic partnerships with global development partners.
- Considerable practical experience in planning and managing large budgetary, financial and human resources within health technical programmes.
- Experience in the development, implementation and monitoring of multi-office strategies, work plans and budgets.
- Experience in the development and implementation of HIV or hepatitis programmes.
- Expert knowledge of English.
- Intermediate knowledge of French.
