Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of General Manager in Switzerland.
The General Manager will be responsible for developing contemporary approaches to the strategic outlook and guidance provided by the Board for the habitat programme.
The mission of AKDN is to work to improve the welfare and prospects of people in the developing world, particularly in Asia and Africa, without regard to faith, origin or gender.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The General Manager will perform the following functions-
- Ensuring that the planning, design and implementation of the Agency’s habitat programmes are in compliance with global technical standards and best practices.
- Ensuring that the Agency’s work in the field of emergency management is guided by state of the art knowledge related to the occurrence of, and preparedness for, natural disasters.
- Ensuring close collaboration with AKDN’s financial and resource institutions in order to establish internal funding mechanisms and financial products to support home ownership in built environment projects.
- Developing, nurturing and maintaining strong relationships with governments, bilateral and multilateral development agencies for the purposes of improving building practices in geographical areas of interest and for creating funding and knowledge-sharing partnerships internationally.
- Working closely with the field units and their governance structures to ensure effective implementation of programmes and strategic development of the units.
- Ensuring the sustainable development of the field units from financial, technical and human resource perspectives, through support and critical oversight of their plans.
- Responsible for the development and implementation of detailed, annual work plans of the field units and the head office; and.
- Ensuring that the budgets of the field units and the head office are critically reviewed before approval and then rigorously adhered to during the operational period.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Relevant high-level technical expertise in agreement with the Agency’s mandate.
- At least 15 years of experience at operational and senior management level, preferably including in high mountain areas, and should be able to lead a culturally diverse team in achieving the Agency’s mandate.
- Credible experience in organizational change management, organizational development and an understanding of supervising and directing field level.
- Significant experience in dealing with international development agencies including the World and Asian Development Banks, the UN agencies and national governments.
- Excellent people management skills especially when dealing with a range of culturally diverse colleagues and staff.
- Ability to develop strategic plans related to international operations.
- Demonstrated financial acumen and budgetary skills.
- Excellent communication skills with a commitment to create an inspiring, supportive, encouraging and productive work environment; and.
- Ability to represent the AKAH and the AKDN at high level fora, including with government ministers, development bank presidents and to donor Agency CEOs.
