The World Bank is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Senior Economist based in Washington, USA.
The World Bank has set two ambitious goals to push extreme poverty to no more 3 percent by 2030, and to promote shared prosperity and greater equity in the developing world.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Senior Economist performs the following functions-
- Lead, in collaboration with other partners, capacity building efforts under the Network of Excellence on Land Governance in Africa (NELGA) including assistance to Universities for in curriculum development, teaching short courses, and organizing internships for African researchers.
- Act as the Bank’s focal point for NELGA-related activities and, in this capacity, collaborate with African institutions (e.g. NEPAD/NPCA), centers of technical expertise (e.g. African Tax Institute or African Planning Association).
- Lead the design and development of the EBA indicators of land, including concept design, questionnaire development, developing a coding methodology, and conducting policy analysis of the data.
- Supervise consultants work on administering surveys to local experts, verifying survey responses, and data entry.
- Establish mechanisms to processing available data on land tenure and use (e.g. household and opinion surveys, administrative data, and remotely sensed imagery) to improve analysis of land issues at national and global level and use the experience gained in doing so to establish collaborative links with other data providers within and outside the Bank to showcase the usefulness of such data and define standards for their collection.
- Oversee preparation and implementation of the annual Conference on Land and Poverty in a way that builds on and enhances its reputation as an event to foster innovation among the global land community.
- Lead the development of internal and external networks of stakeholders in the access to land and related regulatory policy.
- Participate in dissemination activities including presentations to governments, donor agencies, private sector organizations, as well as communicating with the media.
- Supervise experts/ consultants/ firms as necessary for project or program implementation.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Advance degree in economics, environment, agriculture, public administration, law, or related field, with a focus on land preferred.
- At least 10 years of relevant experience in operations or research; indicators and analysis; advisory services; agricultural land related work.
- Record of research and publication on land related issues.
- Record of achieving high-quality substantive results over extended period
- Track record of leading operational teams and delivering analytical and operational products related to business environment issues; understanding of substantive issues in comparative institutional and regulatory analysis.
- Extensive knowledge on the Network of Excellence on Land Governance in Africa activities as well as on the Conference on Land and Poverty.
- Experience with data management and analysis and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and STATA.
- Experience in cross country data collection and analysis highly desirable.
- Ability to translate research findings into policy recommendations and support for operational work of the WBG.
- Knowledge of the Doing Business methodology is an advantage.
- Well-developed interpersonal and team working skills; ability to operate effectively both as a task team leader and unit team member; initiative, persistence and positive attitude.
- Ability to deal sensitively in multicultural environments and build effective working relations with local and international partners in the private sector, academic advisors, and clients across the WBG, including senior managers and regional units.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-moving environment.
