Room to Read is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Chief Program Officer in San Francisco, California, US.
The Chief Program Officer (CPO) is a member of the Global Office Management Team and is responsible for leadership and management of the Program Design and Technical Assistance (PDTA) Department.

Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Chief Program Officer will perform the following functions-
- Lead the development and implementation of Room to Read’s overall educational program strategy related to Literacy and Girls’ Education, in line with the organization’s Strategic Plan.
- Serve as a critical member of the senior management team, helping to set strategic direction and process for the systematic and timely implementation of the Strategic Plan.
- Lead efforts to codify best practices for Room to Read’s Literacy and Girls’ Education programs so that they can be shared across existing countries of operation and rolled out in new ones.
- Manage the ongoing work of staff in multiple locations by serving as a supervisor, mentor, and coach who encourages collaboration, innovation, excellence, and professional development for all staff.
- Communicate effectively and exemplify Room to Read’s vision, values, and strategic goals to key internal and external audiences.
- Participate as a leader within the international education, literacy, and girls’ education community.
- Stay informed about research and trends in the area of international education and recommend improvements for Room to Read’s programs accordingly.
- Represent Room to Read by attending and speaking at different forums and advocate the importance of its educational work.
- Participate in planning the annual management team conference and other workshops and meetings that serve as an ongoing opportunity for planning, training and idea sharing.
- Participate in Global Office Management Team meetings and Board of Director meetings.
- Aid the Development Team in preparing high-quality proposals and reports and meet with investors as required.
- Work with the Room to Read Accelerator team to identify opportunities for technical assistance projects, develop project designs, and staff projects for success.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Minimum of 15+ years of international education experience focused on K-12 grade levels in low-income countries.
- A master’s degree or Ph.D. in a related field of study, e.g., MA or MPA in International Education, International Relations, or Nonprofit Management.
- Ability to develop and link program metrics to program outcomes and to articulate and promote strong monitoring and evaluation systems and procedures.
- Strong skills, training, and experience in professional development and management/mentoring.
- Significant relevant working experience in a low income country.
- A management style that is outcome-oriented, flexible and respects the capabilities and independence of staff, while providing them with a clear sense of direction.
- Proven track record of achieving results and ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously and take initiative; prior experience in a fast-paced, growth-oriented global or regional organization.
- Prior success working closely with and building relationships with staff, partnerships, donors and a Board of Directors.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Prior success working closely and building relationships with diverse groups of people.
- Ability and desire to travel internationally approximately 25% of time.
