Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Technical Advisor- WASH in South Sudan.
The WASH Technical Advisor is responsible for ensuring that the WASH program activities achieve targeted objectives, maintaining compliance with CRS and donor requirements.
CRS carries out the commitment of the Bishops of the United States to assist the poor and vulnerable overseas.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Technical Advisor- WASH will perform the following functions-
- Develop strategies for the implementation of sustainable WASH programs in South Sudan. Assume responsibility for the management, coordination and overall implementation of CRS WASH activities.
- Coordinate CRS WASH activities in collaboration with the HoP, DHOP, Project Managers and CRS South Sudan WASH team members.
- Participate in cluster working groups and meetings; and represent CRS to donors and relevant government ministries.
- Identify, build and manage collaborative partnerships with partners and sub-grantees.
- Ensure that CRS program and quality standards are adhered across all water, hygiene and sanitation activities.
- Ensure all WASH programs have strong M&E systems in place and that lessons learned and best practices are being documented and – in collaboration with the EARO RTA WASH – being shared in- and externally.
- Design and lead needs assessment teams for current and potential new projects and support proposal efforts by providing technical input and budgets for WASH interventions.
- Provide technical assistance to start-up of new projects.
- Provide mentorship and technical advice to water, hygiene and sanitation teams.
- Support the identification and training of health and hygiene promoters for implementation of WASH activities.
- Support CRS WASH teams and partners in the mapping for water points and their repair and rehabilitation.
- Maintain regular communication with EARO Regional Technical Advisor for WASH.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Master’s degree in a relevant field or a Bachelor’s degree compensated with an additional five years of relevant experience.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in management of WASH activities in developing countries, particularly Africa (i.e. 10+ years with a Bachelor’s degree).
- Strong understanding of humanitarian emergency operating context, including SPHERE and the humanitarian system.
- Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing WASH projects in rural settings.
- Experience in training and mentoring team members.
- Previous experience carrying out WASH assessments.
- Ability to develop hygiene promotion campaigns and materials and experience carrying out Community-led Total Sanitation (CLTS).
- Ability to relate to and motivate local staff effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Experience with and enthusiasm for coaching, mentoring and on the job training.
- Willingness to travel and work in difficult and sometimes insecure environments.
