Development projects in developing countries and countries in transition can apply for the grant program under the Japanese Award for Most Innovative Development Project (MIDP). MIDP is part of the Global Development Network’s Global Development Awards and Medals 2010 and this is specifically awarded to projects and/or organizations that are carrying out original and innovative work in the field. Grants worth US $30,000 for the first prize and US $5,000 for the second prize will be awarded to selected projects and/or organizations. These grants will help grantees to scale up their work. Additionally, the winners will also be eligible to compete under Japan Social Development Fund for a grant of up to US $200,000 for their work.
The eligibility criteria to apply for the grant awards are:
- The Award is open to all development projects in Africa, Asia, Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean, Pacific Islands, and the transition economies of Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
- The project must be managed by a non-governmental organization with its headquarters in a country in one of the above regions.
- The project must have been implemented before 30th June 2009.
- Applicants from previous years (except finalists) may reapply, but they must update the application to include new aspects of the project.
- Finalists from previous years cannot submit an application for the subsequent three years.
