First People Worldwide is seeking applications for the Keepers of the Earth grants to projects that empower Indigenous communities.
First Peoples Worldwide was first developed in 1997 by Cherokee social entrepreneur Rebecca Adamson, as a program of her non-profit First Nations Development Institute.
Goal
The goal of First People Worldwide is to promote traditional knowledge and Indigenous values in a way that will integrate the best of what the communities have to offer into the global society.
Purpose
The purpose of this initiative is to
- support Indigenous Peoples’ self-governance,
- to increase Indigenous Peoples’ capacity to exercise FPIC,
- to build inclusive and transparent political systems,
- include both traditional and contemporary governing structures in decision-making.
Size of Grants
Grants will range from $5,000 to $10,000 with an average of $7,000 for a project covering 12 months.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicant must:
- be an Indigenous-led and community-based organization;
- have an organizational bank account or a fiscal sponsor.
