The projects supported by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) are based on the needs of partner countries and supplement existing multilateral and bilateral cooperation with the German Government.
Project Areas:
- Mitigating Greenhouse Gas Emissions – The projects focus on sustainable energy supply, climate-friendly transportation, low-carbon industrial processes, and the future design of the carbon market.
- Development of Low Emissions Development Strategies (LEDS) and Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs)
- Systems for Monitoring, Reporting and Verifying Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Mitigation Actions (MRV)
- Mobilizing Private Capital for Climate Protection Measures
- Adapting to the Impacts of Climate Change
- Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA)
- Climate-related Risk Management Instruments – Innovative Solutions for Insuring Against Weather Risks
- Development and Implementation of National Adaption Strategies
- Monitoring and Reporting on Adaptation
- Conserving Natural Carbon Sinks with a Focus on REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation)
- Implementation of National REDD+ Strategies – Keeping Forests Intact for Climate Change Mitigation
- Ecological and Social Standards and Additional Benefits of Carbon Sequestration
- Restoring Forest Landscape and Storing Carbon
- Monitoring, Reporting and Verifying REDD+
- Conserving Biological Diversity (CBD)
- Measures related to the CBD Program of Work on Protected Areas (PoWPA) and Cooperation with Local and Indigenous Communities in order to Conserve and Restore Ecosystem
Additional Activities:
- Activities aimed at emissions reductions and carbon sequestration in other ecosystems not covered by the REDD+ mechanism, for example marshes, boreal forests and savannahs
- Activities aimed at enhancing the knowledge and capacities of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES)
Major benefit of the projects: Improvement of living conditions in partner countries.
