The Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), as part of its Advanced International Training Programmes has announced the availability of grants to support participants from following countries to attend the “The Rights of the Child – A Practical Approach” with Phase 1 to be held from 4-22 October 2010 in Stockholm, Sweden and the Phase 2 training to be held during Spring 2011 “in a country to be decided later.”
Participants from the following countries can apply:
Afghanistan, Albania, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, India, Kenya, Moldova, Mozambique, Nepal, Pakistan, South Africa, The Philippines, Uganda, Ukraine, and Zimbabwe (from Zimbabwe only persons from the private sector are eligible to apply).
The training is suitable for NGO representatives, parliamentarians, politicians, civil servants, policymakers and other professions who are working for the rights of children at a high or strategic level. “The applicants should have at least five years of professional experience from work with child rights issues or as an alternative, have the formal responsibility for issues regarding children’s rights.”
“The programme seeks to provide a broader knowledge on how to work to promote children’s rights and exemplify how different monitoring mechanisms can be implemented. Particular attention will be paid to the participants’ own ideas and experiences according to their own national contexts. This will require an active commitment. Special emphasis will be placed on the current debate regarding children’s rights. The participants must also place a strong focus on the development of their own project.”
