Created in 1983, the Social Development Civil Society Fund (CSF) is one of the few World Bank programs that directly support activities of civil society organizations (CSOs).
CSF provides funds to organizations for work that promotes “civic engagement” of marginalized populations. These grants support groups who often are excluded from the public arena by increasing their capacity to influence policy and decision-making. They offer opportunities to reach populations that would otherwise not have access to resources.
The Civil Society Fund makes decisions only once a year by June. Applicant organizations should apply at least four to six months in advance of the date of the grant activity.
