The Fisheries Governance short course will be held from 15 October to 2 November 2012 at Wageningen UR Centre for Development Innovation in The Netherlands.
The training programme is organized by the Centre for Development Innovation at Wageningen University and Research Centre. Candidates from the following developing countries can apply for fellowship opportunity to participate in this course through the Nuffic – Netherlands Fellowship Programme (NFP).

In this training course the participants will learn about fisheries governance and the relation with fisheries management approaches. The course will provide insights on challenges that fisheries governance face and explores ways to strengthen fisheries governance.
The course aims to provide the participants with the opportunity to:
- Become familiar with various perspectives on fisheries management
- Learn about fisheries governance and comanagement concepts, challenges faced in governance and co-management and explore the possibilities, and pre-conditions of good (enough) governance
- Learn about multi-stakeholder processes in fisheries management and practice a range of participatory methodologies and tools
- Become familiar with the tools available to the fisheries manager for controlling fishing effort
