The Hague Academy on Local Governance is conducting a Short Course on Multilevel Water Governance (4 – 15 April, 2016) in Netherlands. This course addresses the key challenges for integrated, multilevel water governance. In this course, participants will be provided with a unique insight into international best practices and water governance tools by the leading international experts and practitioners. Participants will get a unique insight into international best practices and water governance tools and work actively to apply the five building blocks for sound water governance for their own local context.
Participants will visit Dutch water projects on modern flood management, urban water management and waste water treatment. During these visits there will be a special focus on cooperation structures and financing mechanisms.
After successful completion of the course participants will receive a certificate of The Hague Academy for Local Governance.
Course Objectives
This course will help to:
- gain state of the art knowledge on concepts and principles of integrated, multilevel water governance;
- identify instruments for increasing social and financial accountability of water management and water services;
- increase insight in the legal, political and institutional framework affecting water governance in your context;
- get acquainted with assessment tools and new approaches for dealing with the challenges of water governance;
- broaden your knowledge on international best practices in the field of multilevel water governance.
Eligibility Criteria
Policy makers and technical staff of organisations responsible for water management at different levels, as well as programme managers and advisors working for donor and development organizations are eligible to participate.
