Project Context
Trafficking of women and girls to brothels is one of the worst forms of violence against women. Trafficking victims are usually deceived and once inside the prostitution ring, they are beaten up, forced to have sex and made to live in dirty conditions. It is a serious violation of human rights. To address this problem, it is necessary to identify such cases of trafficking and rescue women and ensure the creation of sustainable livelihoods for them to prevent their return to trafficking.
Project Objectives
- To provide rescue and rehabilitation support to victims of trafficking, especially those suffering from extreme violence and violation of their basic human rights.
- To support them with alternative livelihood and skill development
- To pursue trials and ensure legal punishment for traffickers
Project Activities
- Identify women and girls in brothels and red light areas who have been deceived and succumbed to worst forms of violence.
- Organize rescue efforts in collaboration with the local authorities to rescue these women and girls.
- Provide rehabilitation support to these victims of trafficking through psychological counseling and medical care.
- Organize livelihood trainings and support to help them develop alternate means of employment or education.
- Undertake legal cases against traffickers and empower the survivors of trafficking to carry out the trial for punishing them.
Project Outcomes
- Increased number of women and girls victimized to trafficking are rescued and rehabilitated.
- Increased number of women and girls undertaking livelihood training and/or education
- New micro-enterprises established by the survivors of trafficking
- Cases registered against traffickers and legal trials carried out against them
