CARE International with the support of the UN Trust Fund against Violence against Women implemented the project on “Promoting the Safety of Women Workers in the Beer Industry” in Cambodia.
Background
The project seeks to serve women working to promote beer in entertainment outlets in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Like sex workers, the social perception of these beer promoters is not favourable because of which they face lot of sexual harassment.
Strategy
Care International’s intervention sought to “increase the number of non-violent workplaces from 6 to 60; create a harassment reporting hotline with the Phnom Penh Municipal Police; and put in place standard operating procedures and guidelines for enforcing civil and criminal laws, including the Labour Code and the Law on Prevention of Domestic Violence and Protection of Victims.”
