International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) implemented the “Transitional Justice: Addressing Gender-Based Violence and Ensuring Women’s Participation” in Kenya, Uganda, Cote d’Ivoire, Colombia, Tunisia and Nepal.
Project Rationale
There are greater chances of women getting subjected to violence during periods of conflict or repression and there is limited ability for women to seek recourse to defend their rights.
Strategy
ICTJ designed transitional justice mechanism in ways “to better address the specific justice needs of victims of gender-based violence. By providing in-depth technical assistance and trainings to national policymakers involved in the design of transitional justice measures, women’s organizations, and practitioners, the project will ensure that gender-based violence is addressed, particularly in the areas of truth-seeking and reparations.”
