Project Context
Violence against women is a rampant issue in the country because there is a lack of adequate legislation to address it. Lack of legislation to tackle violence against women demonstrates the poor sensitivity levels of the government, but the poor sensitivity is also due to the poor representation of women in the lawmaking body of the government. Therefore, to address the problem of violence against women, it is important to reach out to the cause of the lack of proper representation women in the legislative body.
Project Objectives
- To create political awareness of women for their improved participation in the political processes of the country
- To increase the representation for women in the lawmaking body of the country
- To advocate for policies addressing the problem of violence against women
Project Activities
- Organize training workshops for local women leaders to create political awareness on elections, policies, lawmaking processes and the constitution.
- Build and strengthen networks through awareness workshops for women to advocate for policies against violence against women.
- Organize seminars with government officials, women leaders and civil society on the issue of violence against women.
- Organize meetings with government officials to advocate for policies to ensure adequate representation of women in the lawmaking processes.
Project Outcomes
- More women are aware and informed about the various political processes including elections, policies, lawmaking processes and the constitution.
- Strengthened women’s networks at the local level discussing women’s issues, including violence against women and advocating it for policy-level consideration
- Increase in the number of women representation in the lawmaking processes.
