The International Rescue Committee (IRC) implemented the “Community-based Multi-sectoral Response to Gender-based Violence” in Thailand with the grant support of the UN Trust Fund against Violence against Women (VAW).
Background
The project targeted the displaced Karenni community where women and girls were suffering from structural and systemic forms of gender-based violence with a cultural environment of harmful beliefs and attitudes about gender.
Strategy
The project scaled up “an already proven approach to service delivery for gender-based violence in humanitarian contexts: a survivor-centered, multi-sectoral approach to address the needs of survivors” and built the capacity of the local organization called Karenni National Women’s Organization (KNWO) to provide response to gender-based violence cases and serve as a technical hub.
