Small Grants Call will open on Early 2015
Humanitarian Innovation Fund supports organizations and individuals to identify, nurture and share innovative and scalable solutions to the challenges facing effective humanitarian assistance. The fund supports creative ideas, new partnerships with key actors, dissemination of lessons learned and strengthening relationships between humanitarian agencies, academics and those in the private sector engaged in innovation processes. Types of grants include Small Grants, Large Grants and Wash Facility.
Small Grants for
- Recognition of a problem, a challenge or an obstacle to be overcome; with a corresponding opportunity for innovation.
- Invention of a solution, or an idea, which helps to address the problem or seize the opportunity.
- Diffusion of the innovation leading to its wider adoption, outside the original setting.
Large Grants for
- Development of the innovation by creating practical actionable plans and guidelines.
- Implementation of the innovation to produce real instances of changed practice, often initially using pilots and then scaling up promising innovations.
WASH Facility for
- Latrine design, including latrine alternatives in urban areas or where flooding is prevalent, as well as measures to ensure safe use such as lighting and maintenance.
- Waste management issues, including drainage, desludging and excreta disposal, as well as solid was management in emergency settings.
- Community participation and hygiene promotion, spanning hand washing and sanitation marketing issues.
- Water treatment and storage challenges, including the need the need for new water containers and bulk and point of use household filters.
