The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) has given complete information on writing a proposal in its Proposal Guidelines document available at this link. It is also available in French, Russian, Arabic, Farsi, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese and Turkish.
The guidelines are fairly easy to understand and it has been also supported with examples. All applicants are required to read these guidelines carefully. We have provided below more useful information with examples, samples and tips to write and present a more effective proposal.
We deal with the Proposal Narrative (second part of the proposal package here) after completing the Proposal Cover Sheet.
The Proposal Narrative comprises of the following sections:
I. Summary (1-2 paragraphs)
II. Background (1-2 pages)
III. Project Objectives (1-2 short paragraphs or bullet points)
IV. Project Activities (2-4 pages)
V. Evaluation Plan (2-4 paragraphs or bullet points)
VI. Organizational Background (up to 1 page)
VII. Interim Assessment (1-2 pages)
VIII. Budget (1-2 pages)
From the above-given size limit, it can be assumed that NED will consider proposals which are not more than 15 pages. The section headings of the proposal are also not so complicated and can be easily comprehended and completed in good time.
